Technology advice you can actually trust

Most small organisations don't need an IT department. They need one person they can call — someone calm, honest, and technically competent — before they make an expensive decision.

Geek in a Cape

The person behind the cape

For twenty-five years, across schools on two continents, I've been the person people come to when something is complicated and they need it to make sense. Sometimes that's a technology problem. Sometimes it's a human one. Usually it's both at once.

Colleagues and clients have consistently described the same quality across very different situations: a calm, non-anxious presence that helps people think more clearly when things feel complicated. I don't pretend problems aren't real — I just don't add to the panic. That steadiness, it turns out, is as useful as any technical skill.

I founded Geek in a Cape in 2024 to bring that same combination — technical competence, genuine patience, and pastoral instinct — to organisations and individuals who need honest advice they can trust.

I'm currently completing the Oxford Artificial Intelligence Programme at Saïd Business School, which informs how I help clients navigate AI tools and policy with confidence rather than anxiety.

Organisations and people who deserve better

I work best with clients who are doing genuinely good work but feel overwhelmed by technology — and who want an advisor they can trust, not a salesperson.

💼

Sole Traders & Professionals

Independent professionals who want technology to work for them without the complexity or cost.

🏛️

Small Charities

Real needs, limited budgets, and no IT department. Technology decisions that matter, made carefully.

🌿

Non-Profits & Social Enterprises

Organisations doing meaningful work with limited resource, where every technology decision needs to count.

🏠

Individuals & Home Users

Anyone at home who needs patient, friendly help with technology — no jargon, no judgment, and no rush.

Simple from the start

No jargon, no lengthy proposals, no pressure. Just a conversation — and then, if it makes sense, a relationship that makes technology easier for you.

01

A free conversation

Tell me what you're struggling with, what decisions are coming up, or simply what technology feels like right now. I'll listen, ask a few questions, and tell you honestly whether I can help.

02

A clarity session or technology review

For most clients, the next step is a paid 90-minute session or a full technology review. You'll get a clear written summary and specific recommendations — useful whether or not we work together further.

03

Ongoing support, if it's right

Many clients choose a monthly retainer — a fixed amount that gives them access to honest advice whenever they need it. No surprises, no hourly clock-watching, just someone they can call.

Simple, transparent pricing

Most clients start with a free conversation or a one-off clarity session, then move to a monthly retainer when they realise the value of having someone they trust on call.

Chaos to Compliance

The challenge

A leaseholder community took over block management with zero handover — facing immediate legal compliance deadlines, no administrative infrastructure, and residents under genuine stress. They needed calm and a system, fast.

What happened

Using existing Office 365 tools and free resources, a full compliance and communication system was built in weeks. Legal deadlines were met, resident confidence was restored, and the community had infrastructure they could manage themselves going forward.

He Will Make Straight Your Paths

The challenge

A busy parish priest was drowning in mileage and expenses paperwork — a recurring administrative burden taking hours each month that could be spent elsewhere.

What happened

A custom Google Sheets solution automated the entire process. The solution worked so well it was subsequently developed into Travel Expenses+, a published Google Workspace add-on. Note: currently under review — get in touch if you'd like to know more.

Digital Rewards, Real-Time Data

The challenge

A school's rewards and sanctions system was a paper-based bottleneck — slow, inconsistent, and producing no useful data for staff or leadership.

What happened

Using existing Google Workspace, the system was transformed into a real-time digital tool with a Looker Studio dashboard and automated alerts. Staff engagement improved immediately; leadership had data they could actually use.
